Facebook displays content-not-available message when posts restricted

Facebook displays a notice when a post cannot be viewed that reads, “When this happens, it’s usually because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it or it’s been deleted.”

The message appears to users who follow a broken link or try to view a post that is no longer accessible. It points to three common causes: the original poster limited the audience, the poster changed privacy settings, or the post was removed.

Facebook, owned by Meta Platforms, is a major social media network used for personal updates, news distribution and public discussion. Content that becomes unavailable can hinder efforts to verify information and creates gaps in public records, especially when links are preserved in news stories or online archives.

Posts also can become inaccessible if the platform removes them for violating its policies, or if accounts are suspended or deleted. Users who encounter the notice may need to contact the original poster or check privacy settings to learn more. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
