Toppers walk off twice, sweep No. 12 Mobile on Senior Day

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian’s Toppers swept No. 12 Mobile with back-to-back walk-off wins on Senior Day, the school reported. The Toppers won the first game 1-0 and completed the sweep with a 5-4 victory in the nightcap.

Game one unfolded as a pitching duel. Madison Montgomery tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing five hits and keeping Mobile within reach. In the bottom of the seventh, Maryn Macri, running for Vaye Savage, scored on a double to the left-center gap by Bre Ramsey to deliver the walk-off 1-0 win, according to Blue Mountain Christian athletics.

In game two the Toppers built a 4-0 lead. Aspen Teague drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning. In the sixth, Vaye Savage hit an RBI double, Lakyn Nichols followed with a run-scoring single and Karen Wisher added an RBI double to push the lead to 4-0.

Mobile rallied in the seventh, scoring four runs to tie the game at 4-4 as field conditions worsened. Neely Cooper was struck by a line drive during the inning, and Montgomery entered in relief and finished the frame. With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh, Blue Mountain Christian loaded the bases and Savage was hit by a pitch, bringing home the winning run for a 5-4 walk-off.

Anna Harrison went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in game two, Savage drove in two runs, and Nichols and Wisher each added an RBI in a balanced offensive effort. The Toppers closed Senior Day with two dramatic victories over a nationally ranked opponent, the school said. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
