No. 4 Ole Miss falls 52-28 to Florida in first road game

No. 4 Ole Miss lost 52-28 to No. 21 Florida on Saturday at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Florida, in the Rebels’ first road game of the season.

Deuce Alexander led Ole Miss’ receiving effort with 134 yards on seven receptions, his second 100-yard receiving game of the season. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss completed 25 of 34 passes for 298 yards and one passing touchdown, and added two rushing touchdowns.

Chambliss’ rushing touchdown on Ole Miss’ opening drive of the second half was the 100th touchdown of his collegiate career and his 40th rushing touchdown.

Linebacker Keaton Thomas led the Rebels with 11 tackles and recorded a pass breakup. Jehiem Oatis had a career-high four tackles for Ole Miss, while Blake Purchase recorded a tackle for loss for the second consecutive game.

Thomas said Ole Miss needed greater consistency and a stronger start to the third quarter. Chambliss said the Rebels’ slow offensive start hurt them and credited Florida after its offense continued to produce.

Ole Miss coach Pete Golding described the loss as an “old-fashioned butt whooping” and said the team would use its upcoming bye week to evaluate its performance.
