Ole Miss prepares for first SEC road game at No. 21 Florida

Ole Miss is preparing for its first SEC road game of the season, traveling to Gainesville to face No. 21 Florida Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT. The 3-0 Rebels are coming off a top-10 victory over LSU.

Coach Pete Golding said the team used film sessions and walkthroughs to review the LSU game and correct mistakes before turning its attention to Florida. He was encouraged by the return of defensive backs Sharif Denson and Antonio Kite against LSU, citing their effect on communication and tackling in space.

Golding identified Florida’s use of shifts and motion before the snap as a major challenge for the Ole Miss defense. He also praised running back Jaden Baugh’s balance, physicality and versatility as a runner, receiver and pass protector.

Ole Miss wide receiver Caleb Odom said the Rebels have been preparing for Florida’s pass rush and have incorporated crowd noise into practice ahead of the trip to Gainesville.

Denson, who played his first two collegiate seasons at Florida before transferring to Ole Miss, said he knows what makes The Swamp difficult for visiting teams. He said executing during the opening drives could help keep the crowd from becoming a factor.

Defensive end Blake Purchase described the LSU game as an unforgettable experience because it was his first SEC game, but said the Rebels quickly shifted their focus to the next conference opponent. He said Ole Miss understands the importance of moving forward with another SEC game just days later.
