Mississippi State baseball update highlights 51 former Diamond Dawgs in pro ranks

Mississippi State has 51 former Diamond Dawgs playing professional baseball in 2026, including eight current major leaguers, according to the program’s latest update. The school says its baseball history includes 72 Major Leaguers, 13 MLB All-Stars with 30 selections, seven World Series champions and 21 first-round draft picks.

Among the former Bulldogs in the majors, Justin Foscue is batting .271 with 11 home runs and 33 RBIs for the Texas Rangers. He is hitting .348, going 8-for-23, with two doubles, one homer and seven RBIs in September. Nathaniel Lowe is batting .254 with 17 homers and 58 RBIs for the Cleveland Guardians. He hit a three-run homer against Baltimore on Sept. 7 and a two-run shot against the Orioles two days later.

Several major leaguers are dealing with injuries. Jordan Westburg of the Baltimore Orioles underwent Tommy John surgery in mid-May and will miss the 2026 season. Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff, who has a 2-2 record and 2.98 ERA, will miss the rest of the season after surgery on his right shoulder.

In Triple-A, Memphis pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje earned a win after throwing six shutout innings with five strikeouts against Durham on Sept. 5. Sacramento pitcher Will Bednar worked three scoreless innings with four strikeouts against Salt Lake on Sept. 4, while Eric Cerantola recorded a save with a scoreless, hitless inning the next day.

Double-A Portland pitcher Tyler Davis earned a save at Chesapeake on Sept. 6 and later won after throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts against Binghamton. Montgomery outfielder Connor Hujsak is hitting .333 in September, with four doubles, seven RBIs and three stolen bases in 30 at-bats.

At the Class A level, Inland Empire infielder Ace Reese is batting .440 with a 1.197 OPS. He went 2-for-2 with a walk, a single, a double, an RBI and a run scored against Lake Elsinore on Sept. 5. Vancouver pitcher Colby Holcombe is 2-0 with a 3.07 ERA at home in 2026 and has limited hitters there to a .180 batting average.
