Millsaps’ Samantha Parris wins consolation back draw at ITA South Regionals

Millsaps College junior Samantha Parris won the 32-player back draw in the Consolation B bracket at the NCAA Division III ITA South Regionals at the Farm and Forge Club in Nashville, Tennessee.

Parris opened with a 3-6, 3-6 loss to Centre College indoors before defeating Covenant College 6-4, 6-2 and Berry College 7-5, 6-2.

In the back-draw final, Parris lost the first set 4-6 but took the second set 6-4. She then won the deciding three-set super tiebreaker 10-5 to secure the title.

Freshman Gabryelle Habetz also won her back-draw first-round match in straight sets before losing in the second round in a competitive match.

Millsaps said the tournament was a good first event of the season for its women’s tennis program. The Millsaps men’s and women’s teams will next compete during the spring seasons, with schedules to be announced in the coming weeks at gomajors.com.
