Kipple, Mitchell named to Reddie-Tiger Invitational All-Tournament Team

Mississippi Christian volleyball players Samarin Kipple and Cydney Mitchell were named to the Reddie-Tiger Invitational All-Tournament Team after the Choctaws played four matches at Duke Wells Center.

Kipple finished the weekend with 73 digs, 22 assists and eight service aces. She opened the tournament with 15 digs, seven assists and four aces in Mississippi Christian’s 3-1 win over Erskine. She added 15 digs against Ouachita Baptist and recorded 18 digs and five assists against UT Tyler.

Kipple’s top defensive performance came in the Choctaws’ five-set win over Missouri S&T, when she collected a tournament-high 25 digs and added nine assists. Her assist on Caroline Downey’s match-clinching kill helped Mississippi Christian complete a 15-13 fifth-set victory.

Mitchell totaled 40 kills while hitting .397 across the four matches. She also had 11 total blocks, two service aces and 47 points. Mitchell opened with a team-high 15 kills on a .560 hitting percentage against Erskine, followed by eight kills and three block assists against Ouachita Baptist.

Against UT Tyler, Mitchell recorded four kills and five total blocks. She then had 13 kills, four total blocks and 17 points in the five-set victory over Missouri S&T.

The selections were the first tournament honors of the season for both Choctaws. Mississippi Christian is scheduled to return home Thursday, Sept. 10, to host Flagler at 6 p.m. at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
