Blue Mountain Christian women’s golf finishes eighth at Innisbrook

Blue Mountain Christian’s women’s golf team finished eighth in a 13-team field at The Invite at Innisbrook in Palm Harbor, Florida. The tournament concluded Tuesday at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club.

The Toppers shot rounds of 316, 318 and 314 on the par-71, 5,998-yard course for a three-round total of 948, or 96 over par. Their final-round 314 was their best team score of the tournament.

Ansley Pratt led Blue Mountain Christian by placing 20th individually with a 230. She opened with a 77, shot 78 in Monday’s second round and closed with a 75 Tuesday, the lowest round by a Blue Mountain Christian golfer in the tournament.

Karla Frutos finished 29th at 235 after rounds of 77, 76 and 82. Morgan Dabbs tied for 35th at 238, shooting 78, 83 and 77. Erin Porter tied for 47th at 247 with rounds of 84, 83 and 80, while Kayla Shaull finished 54th at 251 and posted an 81 in Monday’s second round.

The field included five teams ranked in the NAIA Top 25. No. 3 Dalton State won at 870, No. 10 Southeastern was second at 880 and No. 12 Truett McConnell placed third at 924. Blue Mountain Christian finished one stroke behind seventh-place Spring Hill, five strokes ahead of ninth-place Reinhardt, and ahead of No. 15 Pikeville and No. 25 Coastal Georgia.

“I was proud of the way our ladies competed in a really strong field,” BMCU coach Kevin Barefield said. “We had some good stretches of golf over the three rounds, and I thought we did a nice job of finishing the tournament strong today. Playing against this type of competition gives us a good opportunity to see where we are and what we need to continue working on.”
