Alcorn Braves to host Texas Southern in SWAC game Saturday
The Alcorn Braves will host Texas Southern University at 3:05 p.m. Saturday in Lorman, Mississippi, with Alcorn entering at 2-2 overall and 1-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. Texas Southern is 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the SWAC.
Alcorn State University will hold High School Day before kickoff, with festivities scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
The game will be broadcast on the Braves Radio Network through WPRL 91.7 FM, with Charles Edmond handling play-by-play and Cedric Tillman reporting from the sidelines. It will also be streamed on SWAC TV.
Alcorn is seeking to improve to 3-2 and is listed as 2-0 against SWAC opponents. The Braves enter the game on a two-game winning streak against Texas Southern.
Several Alcorn players appear on preseason watch lists or teams. Cameran Rogers and Eric Thomas Jr. were named to the 2026 Deacon Jones Player of the Year Watch List, while defensive back Tayvion Haney was named to the 2026 Aeneas Williams Award Preseason Watch List. Punter Demetrion Duvall was named to the 2026 Preseason Punter of the Year Watch List.
Thomas and Duvall were also named to the BOXTOROW HBCU Preseason All-America Team. Rogers, Thomas and Duvall were selected to the SWAC Preseason First Team, while Abe Diallo, Kenneth Andrews and Haney were named to the conference’s Second Team. Alcorn was picked to finish third in the SWAC West Division.
The forecast at kickoff calls for a high of 83 degrees, 5 mph winds and a 10% chance of rain. Alcorn’s next game is scheduled for Oct. 3 at Grambling State, with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
