Reeves calls special elections for two Mississippi House seats

Gov. Tate Reeves said in a Facebook post that he has signed writs calling two special elections for Nov. 3 to fill vacancies in the Mississippi House of Representatives created by the deaths of Rep. Price Wallace and Rep. William “Bo” Brown.

The elections will fill House District 77, which includes parts of Rankin and Simpson counties, and House District 70 in Hinds County. Reeves said if no candidate receives a majority of the vote, runoff elections will be held Dec. 1. The deadline for candidate qualifying is Aug. 20.

The Mississippi House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the state Legislature, and special elections are the mechanism used to restore representation for constituents when a seat becomes vacant. Filling these seats will determine who represents residents of the affected districts during upcoming legislative sessions and local matters.

Reeves also expressed that Mississippi continues to pray for the families of Representatives Wallace and Brown. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
