Mississippi official praises former state Sen. John Polk

In a Facebook post, a Mississippi official praised longtime friend and former state Sen. John Polk, saying Polk loved the state and dedicated much of his life to public service.

The post called Polk a decisive leader whose contributions “will not be forgotten,” and said his leadership and commitment “will be felt for years.” The author described Polk as one of those people who would tell an exact opinion on any topic before state government and said he respected Polk’s judgment because he was a successful businessman before entering politics.

The post also referenced a long friendship with Polk and his partner, Jan, and echoed an old saying: “If you want a friend in politics, get a dog.” It added that Polk “wasn’t afraid to make a decision, and he wasn’t afraid to tell our friends ‘no’ when it was best for our state.”

“First Lady of Mississippi Elee Reeves and I are praying for Jan and the entire Polk family during this very difficult time for all of us,” the post said. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
