Traffic crash in Bentonia leaves one dead, no injuries to students

A traffic accident in Bentonia on Jan. 8 resulted in one fatality, according to local authorities.

The crash occurred around 3:18 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 49 and Highway 433. A dark-colored GMC Canyon heading north on Highway 49 collided with a school bus traveling west on Highway 433.

The impact caused the pickup truck to overturn multiple times. The bus was carrying two students at the time. Neither students nor the bus driver were injured.

The driver of the GMC Canyon died at the scene. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity and say the investigation is ongoing.

Family members and loved ones of the deceased are in their thoughts, officials said.
