Mississippi auditor joins DOJ fraud enforcement roundtable
JACKSON, Mississippi — State Auditor Shad White announced that the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor participated in the Southeast Regional Fraud Enforcement Partnership roundtable hosted by the U.S. Department of Justice, a meeting White said strengthened collaboration between federal and state agencies to combat fraud.
“President Trump has made it clear from day one that eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in government is one of his top priorities,” White said. He said his office has uncovered more than $400 million in waste across state government.
The Office of the State Auditor highlighted recent work with federal law enforcement that it said uncovered tens of millions of dollars in fraud, including unemployment fraud, welfare fraud, embezzlement of education dollars and local corruption.
OSA also presented recent oversight of nonprofits that receive taxpayer dollars, White said. The Southeast Regional Fraud Enforcement Partnership is a Justice Department initiative that brings federal, state and local partners together to coordinate investigations and strengthen program integrity.
The Office of the State Auditor conducts audits and investigations of state and local government spending to detect waste and fraud. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
