Pike County Sheriff’s Office highlights Mississippi sex offender registry

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office is urging parents, guardians, business owners and other residents to use the State of Mississippi Sex Offender Registry to find information about registered sex offenders throughout Mississippi.

The registry allows geographical searches by ZIP code and county. Users are instructed to visit the website, select “I Agree” to accept its Conditions of Use statement and follow the prompts to begin a search.

The website also offers a Community Notifications feature. Citizens can sign up for email notifications when a registered offender moves into an area they have selected.

The Sheriff’s Office also directed residents to the registry’s Resources tab, which includes Mississippi Sex Offender Statutes with information about laws relating to sex offenders in the state.

The office said the information is intended to encourage residents to stay informed and aware of their surroundings. The message was attributed to Sheriff Bryant “Wally” Jones, who said, “Your Safety is My Team’s #1 Priority.”
