The Panola County Sheriff's Office, Batesville Police Department and other law enforcement officers will conduct the Joe Cosby Memorial Mile Gear Walk on Wednesday in Batesville as part of Deputy Joe Cosby Day in Panola County.
The walk will begin at Cosby's gravesite in Magnolia Cemetery and end at the Batesville Courthouse on the Public Square. Starting at 8:30 a.m., the flag at the graveside will be lowered to half-staff. Participants will then travel along Eureka Street to the courthouse, where that flag will also be lowered to half-staff.

Traffic will be paused briefly at the intersections of Perkins Lane and Eureka Street and MS Highway 6 and Eureka Street as participants cross.
Cosby was killed in the line of duty on Sept. 30, 1988, while transporting a prisoner to court. The Sheriff's Office said he will always be remembered and honored.
