Walmart Supercenter in Wiggins evacuated after gas line ruptures
WIGGINS, Miss. — The Walmart Supercenter in Wiggins was evacuated early Monday after firefighters responded to a ruptured gas line outside the store, the Wiggins Fire Department said.
Firefighters arrived at about 3 a.m. after receiving reports of a gas line rupture, and confirmed the damaged line was outside the building and had been accidentally struck, the department said. As a precaution, crews evacuated the store while emergency and utility personnel began repairs.
The Wiggins Fire Department said the Walmart Supercenter will remain closed until the gas line is repaired and the area is declared safe by the local gas company. Fire department units remained on scene and on standby while repairs were underway, the department said.
Walmart Supercenters are large-format retail stores that combine general merchandise with grocery operations; gas line incidents typically prompt evacuations and utility responses to ensure public safety. Officials said Walmart will resume normal operations once repairs are completed and the scene is cleared. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
