Vicksburg police welcome new officer after academy graduation

Officer Christopher Watkins has graduated from the police academy, the Vicksburg Police Department said in a Facebook post celebrating his accomplishment. The department said Watkins is prepared to begin serving the citizens of Vicksburg and welcomed him to the VPD family.

The department called graduating from the academy a major accomplishment and said it represents months of hard work, determination and commitment. The post congratulated Watkins and wished him a long, safe and successful career.

Police academy graduation typically follows a period of classroom instruction and practical training in areas such as criminal law, emergency response, defensive tactics and community policing, although the department did not detail the specific curriculum Watkins completed.

The Vicksburg Police Department is the municipal law enforcement agency responsible for public safety in the city. Adding a new patrol officer can help maintain staffing levels and support routine patrols, investigations and community outreach.

Details about Watkins’ training timeline or assignment were not provided. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
