Tupelo man faces felony shoplifting charge
TUPELO, Mississippi — A 22-year-old Tupelo man faces a felony shoplifting charge after police say he attempted to leave a store without paying for multiple items.
The Tupelo Police Department said officers were contacted by employees at Scruggs, a store at 3575 Tom Watson Drive, on May 11 about a suspected shoplifting. Store personnel told officers an individual tried to exit the store without paying for several items, the department said.
After further investigation, officers arrested Erion M. Bass of Tupelo on May 15. Bass was charged with one count of felony shoplifting, the police department said. On May 17, Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Allen ordered Bass held on $5,000 bond.
The case will be presented to the Lee County grand jury, which will determine whether to return an indictment. Felony shoplifting typically involves higher-value merchandise or repeated offenses. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
