Southaven unveils Tribute Hall to honor former police chief

The Southaven Police Department said on Facebook that numerous members attended a Tribute Hall unveiling ceremony at City Hall yesterday to honor former Police Chief Tom Long and celebrate his legacy of service.

The department said Long served a 36-year career and led with distinction while mentoring and developing a future generation of leaders within the department. Many officers spoke at the event, the post said, crediting his leadership style, guidance and commitment to professional excellence for shaping their careers.

Current Police Chief Seth Kern said he strives to lead with the same principles, integrity and dedication he witnessed under Long’s leadership. The department said Kern told attendees that Tom Long’s legacy lives on in the Southaven Police Department.

Southaven is a city in northern Mississippi. Police chiefs set departmental policy and shape daily operations, and ceremonies such as this recognize long-term influence on local law enforcement. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
