Rankin County schedules culvert replacement on Midway Road

The Rankin County Road Department will perform a culvert replacement in the area of 1142 Midway Rd beginning Monday, April 6, 2026, the department said in a Facebook post. The closure is expected to last one day, and motorists are urged to consult the detour map provided by the department.

A culvert is a pipe or tunnel that channels water under a roadway. Replacing a damaged or undersized culvert helps prevent roadway flooding, preserves pavement integrity and reduces the risk of washouts, county officials said in the post.

The department advised drivers to follow posted detour signs and allow extra travel time in the work area. The Facebook post included a map with information on the detour route; motorists should use the map to plan alternate routes and heed temporary traffic controls for their safety and the safety of road crews.

The Rankin County Road Department is responsible for maintaining the county road network, performing routine maintenance and responding to infrastructure needs such as culvert repairs and replacements. Projects like this are common spring maintenance activities as counties prepare for seasonal rains.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
