Rankin County deputies investigate trespassing reports near Reservoir

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. — The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department said deputies searched a wooded area near the Bellegrove subdivision by the Reservoir after receiving a complaint about multiple unhoused individuals allegedly trespassing, but they did not find anyone, officials said.

Authorities said a complainant reported multiple unhoused people in the forested area adjacent to the neighborhood. During a preliminary investigation, deputies said they located multiple online reports related to the matter but could not identify a definitive location from those posts.

The sheriff’s department said it deployed multiple deputies and long-range surveillance assets to search the area. At the end of the search, deputies were unable to locate anyone in the woods. Officials noted in their report that several homes bordering the wooded area appeared vacant, but deputies said they did not have legal cause to search those residences.

Anyone with information or a more specific location is asked to contact the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department at 601-825-1480. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
