Pedestrian killed by train in Laurel

LAUREL — A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a train in Laurel, Laurel police said. The victim was identified as Jerrin Husband, born June 25, 1984.

Investigator Macon Davis said Husband was walking in the middle of the train tracks on South Maple Street between the Jefferson Street and Hartford Street crossings. According to initial information, Husband stepped out from between the tracks but remained on the cross ties before being hit by the train.

The incident remains under investigation, and authorities have not released additional details about the train or any potential charges. Train-pedestrian collisions are often deadly because trains cannot stop quickly and tracks are active transportation corridors.

The crash is likely to prompt renewed attention to rail safety in the community, including the dangers of walking on tracks and using designated crossings. Laurel police said investigators are continuing to work on the case. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
