Mississippi Highway Patrol warns motorists to avoid Interstate 55 in Tate County

Lt. Stewart of the Mississippi Highway Patrol reported from the scene on Interstate 55 near mile marker 260 in Tate County, saying traffic may be moving slowly but road conditions remain unsafe, the patrol said in a social media video.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is the state law enforcement agency responsible for enforcing traffic laws and responding to crashes and other incidents on state highways and interstates. Patrol troopers commonly issue travel advisories when conditions could threaten motorist safety.

Interstate 55 is a major north-south route through Mississippi, and disruptions there can affect travel and freight movement across the region. Motorists traveling near Tate County, in northwestern Mississippi, can expect delays and should plan alternate routes if possible.

The patrol urged drivers to avoid travel in the affected area if possible and to exercise caution if travel is necessary. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
