Mississippi Department of Public Safety wishes safe Fourth on America’s 250th

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety wished residents a safe and happy Fourth of July as the nation marks its 250th birthday, the agency said in a Facebook post Saturday.

The department’s brief message honored “the courage, sacrifice, and freedom that have shaped our nation,” and extended holiday greetings to Mississippi residents, the post said.

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety is the state agency responsible for statewide law enforcement and traffic safety, including the Mississippi Highway Patrol and other public safety services. Agencies such as this typically increase patrols and public messaging during major holidays to reduce traffic crashes and other incidents.

The Fourth of July marks the anniversary of the United States’ 1776 Declaration of Independence and is often observed with parades, gatherings and fireworks. The department’s social media message serves as a reminder for residents to celebrate responsibly and follow local laws and safety guidance. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
