Mississippi closes northern, central driver services stations; southern locations delay opening
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety says northern and central driver services stations will be closed on Jan. 26, 2026, and southern region locations will open at 10 a.m. due to winter weather that has impacted the state, the department said in a Facebook post.
“Winter weather has impacted central and north Mississippi. We encourage everyone to stay home, stay warm, and avoid travel if possible,” said Commissioner Sean Tindell. “We are taking precautions to protect our employees while continuing essential services, and keeping everyone safe as our top priority. I would also like to thank all first responders and frontline workers for their service during this winter weather storm.”
The department asked residents to follow its social media pages for updates as officials continue to monitor conditions. Driver services stations provide services such as issuing driver’s licenses and identification cards, and the department said it is balancing those essential services with employee safety.
This is a developing situation. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
