Mississippi auditor returns $202,716 to taxpayers in June
The Mississippi Office of the State Auditor said in a Facebook reel that it returned $202,716.28 to taxpayers in June.
The office, which oversees audits and financial oversight of state and local government agencies, is responsible for identifying misspent or unaccounted-for public funds and working to recover them for taxpayers, officials say. It conducts audits, reviews and investigations intended to promote accountability and protect public resources.
Returning more than $202,000 to taxpayers reflects recovered funds that the office says it has identified and processed. Such recoveries commonly result from audits, investigations or settlements and can include refunds, restitution or corrections to improper payments.
Officials did not provide additional detail about the sources of the returned funds or how they will be disbursed. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
