Mississippi agency warns deadline nears for winter storm aid

Jackson, Miss. — Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said residents in counties affected by the Jan. 23-27 winter storms have one week left to apply for federal disaster assistance.

The agency said applicants can apply online, by phone, through the FEMA app or by visiting Disaster Service Centers located in Alcorn, Lafayette, Panola, Leflore, Benton, Yazoo, Carroll, Coahoma, Montgomery, Tallahatchie, Pontotoc, Marshall and Tishomingo counties.

MEMA, which coordinates state-level response and recovery efforts, posted the notice on its Facebook page. Federal Emergency Management Agency programs commonly offer help with housing, temporary repairs and other disaster-related needs for qualifying households.

Officials urged eligible residents to apply before the deadline to ensure they are considered for assistance. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
