MEMA continues response after May 6-7 severe weather

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) said it continues to respond to severe weather that impacted the state on May 6 and 7, 2026. Preliminary reports of 17 people injured have been reported to MEMA, and the agency said no fatalities have been reported.

MEMA is the state agency responsible for coordinating emergency response and recovery operations. It works with local officials and first responders to assess damage, provide assistance to affected communities and help restore critical services.

Severe weather can produce tornados, flooding and downed power lines that disrupt daily life and cause injuries. The preliminary injury reports underscore the human toll such storms can exact and the importance of rapid response and recovery efforts across affected areas.

MEMA posted an update on its website with the current information and continues to monitor conditions. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
