Lucedale man dies in motorcycle crash in Greene County

A Lucedale man died Monday afternoon in a motorcycle crash on U.S. Highway 63 in Greene County, the Mississippi Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred March 9 at approximately 3:56 p.m. near Pleasant Hill Road, the patrol said. Authorities identified the rider as Ross M. Eubanks, 56, of Lucedale.

Officials said Eubanks was operating a 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on U.S. 63 when the bike left the roadway and struck the tree line. He sustained fatal injuries, the patrol said. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate.

Greene County is a largely rural county in southeastern Mississippi, and U.S. 63 is a primary north-south route through the region. The Mississippi Highway Patrol routinely investigates serious and fatal crashes on state highways to determine factors such as roadway conditions and possible mechanical or human error. Motorcycle crashes often produce severe injuries because riders lack the protective barriers of passenger vehicles, underlining ongoing safety concerns for riders and drivers alike.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
