Lowndes County reminds drivers to use turn signals
Lowndes County posted a Traffic Tip Tuesday message on Facebook reminding drivers to use their turn signals to communicate intended direction and help keep everyone safe on the road.
The post said the lever on the left side of the steering wheel operates the turn signals. Pushing the lever down activates the left turn signal, and pushing it up activates the right turn signal, the post said.
Drivers should proceed in the direction indicated only after ensuring the lane or turn is clear, the post said. It noted that using a left signal and turning right, or vice versa, can create confusion and increase the risk of a crash. The message urged drivers to use turn signals every time they change lanes or make a turn.
Turn signals are a standard control on motor vehicles and are a basic method of communicating intent to other road users. Clear communication on the roadway helps prevent collisions and keeps traffic flowing smoothly. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
