Jury convicts McComb man on sexual battery charges

PIKE COUNTY, Mississippi — A Pike County jury on Tuesday convicted Calvin Rasheed Patterson, 34, of McComb on charges of sexual battery and touching a child for lustful purposes following a one-day trial in circuit court, prosecutors said.

Patterson was found guilty of one count of sexual battery and one count of touching and handling a child for lustful purposes. Prosecutors said the charges stemmed from an investigation launched after the victim came forward in 2024 and reported that Patterson assaulted her in July 2024. The victim, now 15, testified before the jury about the abuse.

Circuit Judge Michael Taylor sentenced Patterson to 25 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections to be served day for day. Patterson will also be required to register as a sex offender, prosecutors said.

District Attorney Brendon Adams praised law enforcement and medical staff and thanked assistant prosecutors for their work. “I want to thank the McComb Police Department, and the nursing staff at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center for all of their hard work and continuing investigation into such serious crimes,” Adams said. Assistant District Attorneys Sebastian Harrell and Joey Norton prosecuted the case.

Mississippi law requires people convicted of certain sexual offenses to register as sex offenders. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
