Jackson police chief joins procession honoring trainer Sylvester Candler
Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney joined a procession organized by Hinds County Supervisor Robert Graham to honor Sylvester Candler on his 89th birthday, the Jackson Police Department said in a Facebook post.
The department said Candler served 45 years at the JPD Training Academy. The post noted that law enforcement officers and community members participated in the event to recognize his long service.
Training academies play a central role in preparing recruits and providing continuing education for officers, and long-tenured instructors often shape departmental culture and standards over decades. Honoring a former trainer highlights the influence such individuals can have on policing and on generations of officers.
The Facebook post did not provide additional details about the procession or any remarks made during the event. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
