Jackson police chief addresses League of Women Voters on public safety, democracy
Chief RaShall Brackney of the Jackson Police Department addressed the League of Women Voters of the Jackson Area this morning about the role public safety plays in supporting a strong and functioning democracy, the department said in a Facebook post.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization that promotes informed and active participation in government. The group often hosts forums and presentations that bring together civic leaders, elected officials and law enforcement to discuss issues affecting voter engagement and community trust.
Police chiefs and other public safety leaders frequently emphasize that safe, transparent policing helps protect the rights of citizens to assemble, vote and participate in civic life. Building trust between law enforcement and communities can affect public confidence in democratic institutions and the willingness of people to engage in public life.
The Jackson Police Department did not provide further details about the presentation in its post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
