Jackson police assist Hinds County sheriff in death investigation

The Jackson Police Department said in a social media post that it is assisting the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office with a death investigation in rural Hinds County on South Springdale Road.

The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency for areas outside Jackson city limits, while the Jackson Police Department handles policing within the city. Joint responses are common when an incident occurs near the boundary between city and county jurisdiction.

The initial notice provided limited information and did not include details about the circumstances of the death, the identity of the deceased or whether any arrests have been made.

Death investigations typically involve securing the scene, collecting evidence and coordinating with the coroner or medical examiner to determine cause and manner of death. Such inquiries can take time as investigators follow leads and verify facts.

Residents and motorists in the area may encounter increased law enforcement activity near South Springdale Road and are asked to exercise caution. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
