Gulfport police join Safety Day with fire department, Humane Society

Gulfport Police Department said on its Facebook page that officers spent time this weekend at Old Navy for the store’s Safety Day event, joining other local responders and community partners to engage with residents.

The department said participants included Pafford, members of the Gulfport Fire Department and volunteers from the Humane Society. The post noted a dog named Mike, described as still available for adoption, among the animals present.

The department highlighted a lighthearted moment when Det. Brewer borrowed a fire helmet while the fire crew took a break and pressed buttons on the department’s large red truck. The post used the hashtag #GulfportProud and emphasized community policing.

Safety Day-style events aim to promote public safety awareness, allow residents to meet police and first responders, and create informal opportunities for community engagement. Such outreach can help build trust between agencies and the public and can also spotlight local adoption opportunities.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
