Deputy U.S. Marshal Drew Hanson dies in line of duty

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. — Deputy U.S. Marshal Michael Andrew “Drew” Hanson made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on July 13, 2026, the Ocean Springs Police Department said in a Facebook post, extending condolences to his family, friends and colleagues in law enforcement.

Hanson began his law enforcement career with the Gulfport Police Department in 2013 and later served as an enforcement officer with the Mississippi Department of Transportation, the department said. He joined the Ocean Springs Police Department in 2015 and served there until 2016 before moving into federal service.

He served as an agent with U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement before joining the U.S. Marshals Service, the post said. The department described Hanson as courageous and dedicated, and said his commitment to protecting communities and fellow officers will not be forgotten.

The Ocean Springs Police Department listed his End of Watch as July 13, 2026, and asked the public to keep Hanson’s family and his law enforcement colleagues in their thoughts. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
