Crews clear downed tree on South 28th Avenue, traffic resumes

Crews cleared a downed tree and reopened a stretch of South 28th Avenue near Jefferson Street Friday, and traffic was flowing normally by 9:24 a.m., a traffic notice posted on social media said.

The notice, first posted at 8:24 a.m., said a tree had fallen on South 28th Avenue near Jefferson Street and was causing traffic disruptions in the area. The post urged motorists to use caution if traveling nearby and to consider alternate routes while crews worked to remove the debris.

Downed trees frequently block roadways after storms, high winds or from long-term decay, and they can delay commuters, impede emergency vehicles and, in some cases, damage power lines. Local public works and emergency crews typically respond to clear obstructions and ensure roads are safe for travel.

The social media post did not identify the responding agency or provide details on the cause of the tree fall. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
