Chief Brackney discusses death investigation on Ridgeway Street

Chief Brackney said in a Facebook video Monday that officers are investigating a death on Ridgeway Street near Booker T. Washington Street that occurred Monday night, April 27.

The brief video did not include additional details about the circumstances of the death or the identity of the person involved, and local authorities have not released a public statement with further information as of Tuesday.

Death investigations typically involve multiple units within a police department, including homicide detectives, crime-scene investigators and, when appropriate, a medical examiner or coroner to determine cause and manner of death. Such inquiries can take days or weeks as evidence is collected and reviewed.

Incidents of this nature often raise concern in nearby neighborhoods. Law enforcement agencies commonly appeal to the public for tips or surveillance footage that could assist an investigation, and community members are urged to report information to their local police department.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
