Tupelo man arrested on kidnapping charge after alleged abduction

Tupelo police arrested Chavis J. Dilworth, 30, on Dec. 17 on a kidnapping charge following an incident on South Green Street.

Police responded to the scene Dec. 15 after a family member reported that Dilworth, the victim’s ex-boyfriend, arrived at the residence and took the victim’s cellphone before leaving with the person. The victim discreetly signaled for help as they left.

Officers later found the victim, who confirmed they had been taken against their will and threatened with harm, according to police.

Judge Weir of Tupelo Municipal Court ordered Dilworth held without bond during a hearing on Dec. 17. The case will be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury, authorities said.
