VA may shift appointments to telehealth after Mississippi tornadoes

JACKSON — The G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson urged veterans to avoid travel in areas hit by severe tornadoes, saying several communities near its Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) sites were affected.

Emergency management officials said residents should stay off roads in Lincoln and Franklin counties so search and rescue teams can operate safely. VA officials said veterans with scheduled appointments at CBOCs in affected counties should not travel until conditions are safe.

The VA said it will work with patients to reschedule appointments or transition them to telehealth visits. Anyone in immediate danger or in need of emergency medical assistance should call 911. Veterans in crisis can contact the Veterans Crisis Line 24/7 by calling 988 and pressing 1, texting 838255 or chatting online at VeteransCrisisLine.net.

Veterans who need to cancel, reschedule or request a virtual visit can contact the Clinical Contact Center at 1-800-949-1009 or 601-362-4471. They can also contact the VISN 16 Clinical Contact Center at 1-833-363-1063 or use the VA Health Chat app to connect with VA staff from home. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
