Provider spotlight: Dr. Joaquín Hidalgo
In a Facebook post concluding Neurosurgery Awareness Month, a provider spotlight highlighted Joaquín Hidalgo, MD, a board-certified neurosurgeon and an associate professor in the Department of Neurosurgery, the post said.
According to the post, Dr. Hidalgo provides comprehensive neurosurgical care for adult and pediatric patients and has specialized expertise in complex spine, skull base and peripheral nerve disorders. The post said he uses a patient-centered approach and evaluates both surgical and non-surgical options to develop individualized treatment plans.
Born in Venezuela, Dr. Hidalgo graduated summa cum laude from medical school before coming to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he completed his neurosurgical residency, the post said. He then pursued advanced fellowship training at Johns Hopkins University to refine his skills in complex neurosurgical care.
The post listed his clinical interests as complex spine disorders, skull base surgery, peripheral nerve conditions, minimally invasive neurosurgical techniques and both adult and pediatric neurosurgery. It said he employs the latest advancements in neurosurgical technology and minimally invasive approaches to minimize tissue disruption and support faster recovery.
In addition to clinical work, the post said Dr. Hidalgo is committed to education and research, including cadaveric skull base dissections, spine quality improvement initiatives and outcomes research, and that he works collaboratively with specialists across disciplines to pursue the best patient outcomes.
