Mississippi Governor’s Mansion shines purple for Alzheimer’s awareness

A Facebook post announced that the Mississippi Governor’s Mansion will shine purple throughout June to mark Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month and to honor families affected by the disease. The post said the lighting is part of a partnership with the Mississippi Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association to highlight the importance of brain health.

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive brain disorder that affects memory and thinking and is a leading cause of dementia among older adults. The Alzheimer’s Association is a national nonprofit that provides support for caregivers, advocates for research funding and promotes public awareness of the condition.

Public lighting campaigns are commonly used to draw attention to health observances and community needs. Officials and advocacy groups say such visible actions aim to prompt conversations about early detection, caregiving resources and research efforts, and to show solidarity with families living with the disease.

Details about related events or resources from the state or the Mississippi Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association were not included in the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
