UMMC partners target maternal health outcomes in Mississippi

The University of Mississippi Medical Center said in a Facebook post that it and community partners have launched the Center for Optimizing Maternal Outcomes to address Mississippi’s persistently challenging maternal health outcomes.

UMMC said the center will use data, research and local engagement to identify solutions aimed at helping mothers receive the support and care they need.

Mississippi continues to face some of the nation’s most difficult maternal health indicators, and state and local leaders have increasingly looked to coordinated efforts to improve access to prenatal, perinatal and postpartum services.

As the state’s academic medical center, the University of Mississippi Medical Center provides clinical care, training and research that can support population-level health initiatives. Public health officials often advocate data-driven and community-based approaches to reduce maternal risk and improve outcomes.

Details about specific programs, timelines or partners were not provided in the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
