University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Blue named one of America’s best accelerators

The University of Southern Mississippi said in a Facebook post that its Gulf Blue accelerator has been named one of America’s best accelerators. The post said Gulf Blue is the youngest program and the only accelerator on the list focused specifically on the blue economy.

Gulf Blue is an accelerator program associated with the university that supports startups and early-stage ventures working on ocean- and coastal-focused technologies and businesses. The blue economy broadly refers to economic activity tied to oceans, coasts and waterways, including sustainable fisheries, marine technology, coastal resiliency and clean energy from the sea.

Recognition as one of the country’s top accelerators can raise the program’s profile, potentially helping participating startups attract partners, customers and investors. It also highlights the university’s role in fostering regional innovation and economic development tied to maritime and coastal industries.

Details about the organization that produced the list and the criteria used were not provided in the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
