UMMC welcomes M1s as academic year begins
University of Mississippi Medical Center wrote on its Facebook page that “M1s have arrived! Here’s to the start of an incredible journey!” The post signaled the arrival of first-year medical students to the Jackson campus.
M1 is a common designation for first-year medical students. Their arrival marks the start of formal medical training, a multi-year process of classroom instruction, laboratory work and clinical experiences that prepares students to become physicians.
The University of Mississippi Medical Center is the state’s academic health science center and trains physicians, nurses and allied health professionals who serve communities across Mississippi. The center is also involved in medical research and patient care, and the entry of a new class contributes to the future health care workforce in the state.
The Facebook post did not include additional details about orientation or class size. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
