NEMCC paramedic students take patient care lessons into mock courtroom

Northeast Mississippi Community College paramedic students recently took part in a mock courtroom exercise designed to examine how they make decisions, care for patients and document their work.

The learning experience was brought to the college’s Paramedic Program by Shane Scott, J.D., an instructor on the Northeast campus. After completing a patient simulation, students participated in a mock cross-examination and answered questions about their clinical decisions, patient care and documentation.

The exercise emphasized that a paramedic’s responsibilities extend beyond the ambulance ride and include making sound decisions, documenting accurately and confidently explaining the care provided, according to the college.

NEMCC said the program is preparing students for the real-world responsibilities of the profession in addition to preparing them for an exam.
