Mississippi reports nation-leading reading, math gains; graduation rate hits record high

Mississippi is making historic progress in its public schools, a Facebook post said, noting nation-leading gains in reading and math and an all-time high graduation rate that is among the highest in the nation.

The post did not provide detailed statistics but framed the improvements as evidence of the state’s recent focus on student achievement. Mississippi operates a statewide public school system that serves hundreds of thousands of students and is overseen by state education officials and locally elected school boards.

Gains in basic academic skills and higher graduation rates can affect college readiness, workforce development and long-term economic prospects for communities, education experts say. State leaders often point to such improvements when seeking additional resources or when promoting education initiatives aimed at closing achievement gaps.

The Facebook post also said the author looks forward to working with leaders across the South to replicate the progress in other classrooms. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
