Chapel message highlights Baptist pastors’ role in religious liberty

Dr. Ryan Reed spoke in chapel last week about the significance of Constitution Day, highlighting the role Baptist pastors played in shaping America’s founding and the development of religious freedom.

According to the message, Baptist pastors continued preaching the Gospel despite facing arrest, beatings and imprisonment. They held that government authority was limited to the sphere given to it by God, while the church belonged to Christ rather than the government.

The message said the pastors’ courage and perseverance helped secure the religious freedoms included in the Constitution. It also urged listeners to remember the price paid for the liberty they enjoy and stated that Christ’s church would never be silenced.
