BES kindergarten students explore what makes each person special

Mrs. Raines’ kindergarten class at BES has been studying “There’s Only One Me” as part of its reading curriculum, using the essential question, “What makes each of us special?”

The students discussed the things people love to do, the languages they speak, their names, bodies, families and dreams. Through those discussions, they learned that people are different and that being different is positive.

As part of the lessons, the students created self-portraits with cut-outs, designing their clothing and adding facial features. They also studied how characters in their weekly stories are each different and special in their own way.
