New members of Southaven’s 2026/2027 Mayor’s Youth Council were sworn in Sept. 15, 2026. The council includes 36 students from Southaven High School, Desoto Central High School and Northpoint Christian School.

The council’s sponsors are Timothy Gardner of Southaven High School, Terry Boler of Desoto Central High School and Danny Mann of Northpoint Christian School.

Each year, council members represent the City of Southaven at the Mississippi Municipal League Youth Leadership Summit. The summit is hosted on a different college campus each time and includes sessions on leadership, college preparation and decision-making, as well as opportunities to network with students from other municipalities across Mississippi.

Throughout the year, members participate in community service and collaborate on projects in the community. The experiences are intended to strengthen leadership skills, civic responsibility and students’ understanding of local government and the role young people can play in their communities.
